🩸 VIKTORY!
☀️ Good morning and welcome back to The Nosebleeds.
📖 Record books were altered this weekend—many all-time performances that we’re fired up to discuss.
✍️ Sports quote of the day: "It took me seventeen years to get three thousand hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course." - Hank Aaron
🎬️ *Johnny Drama voice* VIKTORY
An ode to Entourage, the best tv show of all-time, with that heading. It’s fitting, because Viktor Hovland gave us one of the greatest back 9 performances of all-time this past Sunday.
Viktor shot a 28 on the last 9 holes to earn a two-shot victory over Scottie “if he could putt he’d never lose” Scheffler and Matt “has tracked every golf shot he’s ever hit since he was like 5” Fitzpatrick at the BMW Championship.
Hovland made twelve 3s in his course record final round of 61. In that sense, Viktor and I are actually quite similar as my rounds of golf usually tend to include three 12s. Same but different.
With the conclusion of the BMW Championship, that means there is only one PGA Tour tournament remaining on the season (😭), the Tour Championship. For those of you who don’t know, the Tour Champ is very interesting because 1.) the winner takes home $18 million dollars and 2.) all of the players don’t start the tournament at even par, their starting scores are based on the FedEx Cup standings heading into the tournament (it’ll make more sense when I show you in 3… 2… 1…)
I saw a tweet today that the Tour Champ should be in a match-play format, and now all I’ll be thinking about while watching the tournament next weekend is how much better it would be if it was match-play. So thanks a lot to that guy 😒
🗻 Djokovic defeats Alcaraz in epic first meeting since Wimbledon
I can’t lie to you, I don’t think there is a better rivalry in all of sports right now than Alcaraz-Djokovic.
On early Sunday evening, there was loads of sports to watch. NFL preseason, plenty of MLB games with major postseason implications, and the back-nine of the BMW Championship. But while all of that was taking place, I found myself glued to the TV watching living legend Novak Djokovic earn a 2-1 set victory over wunderkind Carlos Alcaraz in a 3-hour 49-minute marathon.
Now I do consider myself to be a tennis fan, but you would never find me watching a non-major tennis match over any of the sporting events listed above before this year, but watching these two play just hits different.
For those of you who aren’t as familiar with tennis, I really don’t have any great comparisons for these two but I’ll try my best.
Carlos Alcaraz ➡️ Connor McDavid. The speed, the athleticism, the creativity. These two make plays that no one has ever made before in their respective sport, and they will leave your jaw on the floor more often than not.
Novak Djokovic ➡️ LeBron James. Now I know you are all like wtf no way the guy who write this is an idiot, but Djokovic, like LeBron, is a savant. Even as they grow older, they continue to dominate and they have no weaknesses in their games. Simply two of the greatest athletes of all time.
I say this 100% seriously, matches between these two are the current pinnacle of sports. It is as good as it gets. And I am praying that we see these two faceoff in the US Open final on September 10 (I’m not religious but man if there is a god please make this happen).
I don’t expect you all to believe me, but the next time these two play, put your phone away, grab a beverage, get comfortable and just enjoy the spectacle. I promise you won’t regret it.
🎥 Welcome to the J-Rod show
The Seattle Mariners are the hottest team in baseball. They have gone 20-5 in their last 25 games, and have not only earned themselves a wildcard spot, but they are now within striking distance of the division lead.
To go on a special run, you need your superstars to put you on their back and carry you to the promise land. Julio Rodriguez, the 22 year old superstar centerfielder for the Mariners has done that and then some.
J-Rod set a MLB record for the most-hits over a four-game span EVER with 17.
Most hits in a span of 4 MLB games in history:
17 <---- Julio Rodríguez (his last 4 games)
16 <---- Milt Stock in 1925
15 <---- 16 guys
14 <---- 45 guys
13 <---- 251 guys https://t.co/Jjtwitter.com/i/web/status/1…s— Codify (@CodifyBaseball)

The jump in his numbers from this record-breaking stretch is like nothing I’ve ever seen in baseball.
Julio Rodriguez 4 days ago compared to now
Avg: .256 ➡️ .278
OBP: .319 ➡️ .337
SLG: .432 ➡️ .463
OPS: .751 ➡️ .800
wRC+: 111 ➡️ 125
fWar: 3.7 ➡️ 4.8That’s one of the most insane 4 game jumps I’ve ever seen lmao

Now, if anyone here is feeling a little frisky, I really do not hate a parlay of the Mariners (+900) and Phillies (+800) to win their respective leagues at +8900 (odds courtesy of theScore). Elite rotations, superstar caliber players… the AL is wide open for the taking, and if anyone is going to beat the Braves in the NL, it’s the same guys who took them down in the postseason last year.
🏆️ Vamos!
Spain defeated the Lionesses of England by a score of 1-0 in the Women’s World Cup Final!
The people of Spain should be thanking me for this victory. Let me explain why.
I went on a trip to Barcelona during my fall break, and:
Spain Women’s World Cup championships before my attendance: 0
Championships after: 1
Numbers don’t lie… de nada España.
