🩸 Mets big regrets
☀️ Good morning and welcome back to The Nosebleeds.
⚾️ The MLB Trade Deadline has passed and the final playoff push has officially begun.
🎙️ Time to queue up Friday, it’s almost long weekend time gang.
P.S. your enjoyment of this newsletter 10x’s if you listen to the song while reading… just saying.
🔄 Deadline Recap
In our last newsletter, we already talked about some big moves in the big leagues—headlined by Max Scherzer being acquired by the Texas Rangers. Following our last newsletter being in your inbox, we didn’t see many trades of major significance (there weren’t many big bats available) other than three-time Cy Young winner, one-time MVP, and World Series champ Justin Verlander returning to the Houston Astros in a trade with the New York Mets.
What a dumpster fire this season has been for the Mets. Along with Verlander, the Mets sent the Astros $54 million to get his contract off the books. Mets sure have spent a lot of money to essentially be the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Mets are now paying former players over $150 million.
That would rank 17th among 2023 MLB payrolls.

Here is a full recap of all the moves from this year’s trade deadline:
🏈 NFL is BACK, Baby
The annual NFL Hall of Fame game kicked off the 2023 preseason on Thursday night with the New York Jets taking on the Cleveland Browns in Canton, Ohio. The first couple weeks of NFL preseason is filled with players we’ve never heard of fighting for roster spots, but man is it good to see some NFL football again.
Absolutely cannot wait to sit on the couch for 10 hours straight every Sunday and watch my fantasy team wallop my buddies’ teams.
And don’t you worry, there will be plenty of NFL content coming from The Nosebleeds moving forward.
🩸 Bloody Awful Play of the Week
Can you think of anything worse than costing your country a chance to advance in the World Cup? I certainly can’t, but Italy’s Benedetta Orsi can relate with this play in Italy’s final group stage game against South Africa ⬇️
🩸 Nosebleed Sports Bloody AWFUL Play of the Week
Italy failed to advance to the knockout stages at the #WomensWorldCup and this play was a big reason why…

The Italians just needed a tie to advance against the 63rd-ranked South Africans, but they conceded a goal in the 93rd minute of play to lose the match by a score of 3-2.
If only Italy gave up one less goal…
🤔 NFL Trivia
The Jets and Browns faced off in the preseason opener last night, so of course we’re gonna have some NFL Trivia for y’all today.
Question: who won the NFL Hall of Fame Game (preseason opener) last season?
Answer at the bottom.
📺️ Weekend Watchlist
🏆️ Not often do we see two of the top three ranked teams in the world facing off in the first knockout round, but thanks to the US women sleepwalking through the World Cup group stages, we have exactly that.
The #1 ranked Americans take on third-ranked Sweden in the Women’s World Cup Round of 16. The US are still favored in the match but the Swedes have been dominant so far, going 3-0 in the group stages and outscoring their opponents by a score of 9-1. Very good chance the team who advances from this match takes home the whole damn thing.
⚾️ Some intense baseball rivalries are also on tap this weekend, headlined by:
The Astros taking on the Yankees in the Bronx
Battle of Cali with the Dodgers heading to San Diego to take on the Padres.
Should be a fun weekend of sports.
🫡 ‘til next time!
Trivia Answer: the Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 27-11 in the 2022 NFL Hall of Fame Game.
