🩸 Introducing the Nosebleed Sports Weekly Power Rankings

Ft. F1 and Golf Rankings!

Morning y’all 🤠

Today is the first Wednesday newsletter under our new strategy, which means we have our first Power Rankings edition 📈

Our power rankings will be a little different than traditional sports power rankings that you’re probably used to. To put it simply, the Nosebleed Sports Power Rankings will compile various rankings and data to build a single ranking that accounts for our various resources.

So for today, we have two power rankings for ya:

  • F1 Power Rankings 🏎️

  • Golf Power Rankings ⛳️

No baseball rankings this week though due to the All-Star break, and how similar they would be to our last newsletter. But don’t worry baseball fans, MLB Power Rankings will be in next Wednesday’s edition for sure.

Let’s get started!

To the surprise of no one, Max Verstappen tops our F1 Power Rankings

I am proud to present the inaugural Nosebleed Sports F1 Power Rankings!

* Note: Power Rankings do not include Silverstone GP

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Alex Albon at 2?!” So let’s discuss how these rankings were developed.

The data used to develop these rankings are based off of Aramco’s F1 Power Rankings. Aramco’s rankings judge and score drivers based off of individual performance, independent of machinery. THE RANKINGS FROM EACH GRAND PRIX ARE BASED OFF OF THE ARAMCO RANKINGS, NOT THE RESULTS OF THE RACE (e.g., Max Verstappen won the Canadian GP but was second in Aramco’s Power Rankings, therefore, we rank him #2 for that race).

However, Aramco only ranks the Top 10 drivers from each race, so for the other ten drivers who weren’t ranked by Aramco, they were ranked based off of finishing position in that race (e.g., Perez was the highest finisher who was not ranked by Aramco at the Austrian GP, therefore, he is ranked #11 for that race by us).

We then developed a “Nosebleed Sports (NBS) Score” based off of the driver’s average ranking, with the most recent races weighted more heavily.

Max Verstappen was far-and-away the #1 driver in our rankings. He has been dominating the grid, and is well on his way to a third consecutive World Driver Championship.

Some other takeaways:

  • Albon being at #2 indicates that he has been getting the absolute most out of the Williams

  • Former World Champ Fernando Alonso has been one of the best drivers on the grid all season, coming in at #3 on our initial rankings

  • Ferrari has had the most consistent driver duo as of late

  • Lando Norris comes in at #6, but with his wonderful performance at his home race at the British GP this past weekend we can expect him to continue to be trending up

That concludes our first ever Nosebleed Sports F1 Power Rankings 🔥

Scottie Scheffler: The Undisputed #1

Here are the top 20 players in the Nosebleed Sports Golf Power Rankings!

Our golf rankings differ from our F1 rankings in that they account for rankings from three different sources, rather than rankings from three different events.

Here are our golf data resources:

Our first step in developing these rankings is by creating an average rank for every player, with the Data Golf ranking weighed most heavily. From there, we developed our NBS Score in the same way we did for F1.

Please note that I won’t be explaining our process for developing these Power Rankings/NBS Scores every week, but I felt it was important to explain our development process for these rankings for week one.

🩸🩸🩸

Scottie Scheffler is the #1 ranked player no matter which ranking you prefer - he is undoubtedly the best golfer in the world at this time.

Not only is Scheffler Data Golf’s current #1 ranked player, earlier this year he reached a Data Golf Index Score of +2.83 (which is an estimate of the quality of each golfer's recent performances relative to the average PGA Tour field in units of strokes-gained per round) that has only been beat by three players ever. Here is the top 4:

  1. Tiger Woods (Jan. 28, ‘08) - DG Index: +4.04

  2. Vijay Singh (Feb. 9, ‘04) - DG Index: +3.02

  3. David Duval (Apr. 12, ‘99) - DG Index: +2.96

  4. Scottie Scheffler (Jun. 26, ‘23) - DG Index: +2.83

Look how ridiculous Tiger was. Reached a peak DG Index of +4.04, with the next highest ever being +3.02… 🐯 = 🐐

If Scheffler can find his putting stroke again, he is going to win a lot of golf tournaments.

🩸🩸🩸

Based on our rankings, there seems to be seven players who have separated themselves as the best in the world. They are:

  1. Scottie Scheffler

  2. Rory McIlroy

  3. Jon Rahm

  4. Patrick Cantlay (but prove you can do it in a Major)

  5. Xander Schauffele (^ you too)

  6. Viktor Hovland

  7. Cameron Smith

Only eight more sleeps until The Open Championship… 😴

That’ll do it for our first Power Rankings edition!

As per usual, thank you for spending a few minutes in The Nosebleeds🩸
