🩸 The Equinox

☀️ Good morning and welcome back to The Nosebleeds.

🌎️ Monday was the 29th sports equinox of all time.

🏈 Football, basketball, baseball, hockey… Monday had it all.

On Monday night, we had our one and only Sports Equinox of the year, and the first since October 31, 2022.

For a guy like me, this is one of my favorite days of the year. I didn’t see a commercial all of last night, I was too busy flipping to find the next sport to watch. There’s almost too much, I was overstimulated and stressed about which game I should be watching (and stressed about WTF I should write for this newsletter). But these days don’t come often, so we need to cherish every second of them… which is exactly why I sat my ass on the couch after supper and didn’t move a muscle the rest of the night.

I hope everyone enjoyed sports’ equivalent to Christmas morning on Monday night as much as I did!

🥊 Ngannou robbed of victory against undefeated* Fury

Anyone notice the asterisk in the header? It is there for a reason.

I am by no means a boxing guy, nor do I really know how the scoring works. But at the end of the day, boxing is fighting, and if you showed any random human being that fight and asked them who won that fight, I think they would all say Francis Ngannou.

Sure, Tyson Fury—who boasts a 34-0-1 record—landed a couple more jabs in the match and looked more like a boxer, but the highlight of the fight was when Ngannou, in his first ever boxing match, put Fury on his backside:

Did Fury, the eventual winner of the fight, ever knockdown Ngannou? Nope, not even close.

Feel free to tell me how I’m wrong, but awarding Fury a victory in this fight feels like the judges trying to protect the sport—having a UFC fighter come in and hand Fury the first loss of his career would not be a good look for boxing whatsoever.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how Ngannou continues to grow as a boxer—sure seems like he has all of the potential to eventually become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
