☀️ Good morning and welcome back to The Nosebleeds.
👆️ We will be moving to one newsletter a week starting next week.
😁 So please enjoy our last Friday newsletter (even though it’s just a quicky)!
🚨 The best first in sports history?
An athlete always remembers their first.
First goal, home run, touchdown, basket, or whatever it may be, that first “I made it” moment is a memory an athlete never forgets—no matter how ugly it may have been.
In hockey, we’ve seen first goals off of skates, shin pads, or even helmets. But we’ve also seen legendary first goals scored, such as Jordan Eberle’s first career tally for the Edmonton Oilers.
But I think Zach Benson of the Buffalo Sabres may have surpassed Eberle for greatest first goal in NHL history with this unbelievable goal on Wednesday night against Washington.
Are you kidding me with this?! Bardown… between the legs… simply unbelievable.
A moment Benson and hockey fans everywhere will never forget.
Sticking with hockey for a bit here, even though we are not even a quarter into the 2023-24 NHL season, American Thanksgiving generally gives us a good idea of what teams will be playing playoff hockey.
Since the 2005-06 season, 76.7% of #NHL teams in a playoff spot on U.S. Thanksgiving go on to make the playoffs.

Therefore, 12/16 playoff spots are essentially locked-up already… not what you want to hear if you’re a fan of a team who’s gotten off to a slow start and is now on the outside looking in (tough time to be a hockey fan in Alberta lol).
Here are The Athletic’s projected standings and playoff odds:
Are the Winnipeg Jets the best team in Canada? 👀
🤔 NFL Trivia
As a Canadian, American Thanksgiving means one thing—a full day of football 🦃
Question: what was the last year where one of the Detroit Lions or Dallas Cowboys did not host a Thanksgiving game?
Answer at the bottom (if any of you know this I will be thoroughly impressed).
